Fun run for IWA

Leitrim road Race- 5K

Saturday 1 July 2017 @ 11Am

Calling all runners, walkers, buggies and wheelchair users to join us on our first ever IWA 5K fun Run, Taking place at 11Am in carrick on Shannon registration from 10am in the IWA centre carrick on Shannon located opposite aldi. Refreshments afterwards in the IRISH WHEELCHAIR ASSOCIATION centre. All mone raised will be staying locally in Leitrim and will go towards the purchase of a new bus for our centre.

The run starts on the castlecarra road turning left up summerhill and back onto Dublin road and turning left onto the caslecarra road once again.

Hello all,

I’m writing to you to let you know about the part time, online options for Disability Studies / Disability Equality Studies in St Angela’s college in Sligo. I would be very grateful if you would consider sharing this with anyone that you think might be interested – we particularly want to encourage applications from disabled people. The options may also appeal to people working for, or living with disabled people and those working in the disability sector who aren’t currently in a position to take on a full-time programme of education. Community development practitioners may also be interested in the options.

We have created several study options, all commence in September 2017;

Option 1 - Students wishing to ‘test the waters’ of third level education can opt to take one key Stand-alone Module, without committing to a programme with an academic award (http://www.stangelas.nuigalway.ie/departments/course_details.php?id=INT61&&ver=en)

Option 2 – Students wishing to gain an academic award, can enrol onto the Certificate in Disability Studies programme, which involves taking two modules of part-time study, the certificate can be completed within a year ( Certificate in Disability Studies).

Option 3 – We also offer students the opportunity to undertake the Bachelor of Arts in Disability Equality Studies; a four-year part-time programme of study. After successfully completing 2 years of study, students may choose to leave with a Diploma in Disability Equality Studies (BA (Disability Equality Studies) Programme ).

Hi all it is that time of year again!! Please pass the word around to all family and friends to take part.

The Annual Fun Run,Walk,Roll will be set off at 12.30 with participation medals awarded to everybody who takes part.

Refreshment will be available after the event.

Sing together class in lapwd Mohill by Sarah Garden

 

The Mohill Sing Together group meets weekly on Wednesdays at 2pm in Leitrim Association of People with Disabilities centre. Over the few short weeks the group  have built a repertoire of popular songs and ballads as well as harmony songs and rounds facilitated by Sarah Garden.

 

Kevin Mcgill,chairperson of LAPWD said “The Mohill Sing Together social singing group started in January and has been going from strength to strength. Sing Together provides an uplifting social outing for anyone whether they are retired, living with a disability or  simply enjoys a good old fashioned sing song with others.

 

Sarah Garden of Sing Together said, “Bringing the community together through the medium of song is what Sing Together is all about. Singing has been scientifically proven to lift the mind and energise the body. Everyone has a voice and singing truly inclusive activity bringing joy to everyone who participates. At this event new friendships were formed as result of Singing Together.’
